What Details Captivate Hiring Managers In Application Letters?

Date Posted: 02/13/2019

People looking for a job abroad might find writing an application or covering letter that goes with your resume as boring and unimportant. If you want to be employed in a job abroad that you really want, you better make sure you write a cover letter and that it’s the best that you can make one so that it’s personalised.

According to a survey conducted by workNet DuPage, 93% of human resource professionals read cover letters of the applicants. 53 of 100 HR people said that they “always” and “usually” read application letters, while the other 40% confirmed “sometimes”. Only seven HR professionals said that they rarely need it.

1. Always start with impact!

Most common introductions in a cover letters go with the lines such as “I am (state your name) would like to express interest in applying for (job title) post,” or “I am sending this letter as a formal application to the position you are looking for.” These statements usually make cover letters a boring part of job seeking – both for applicants and hiring managers.

Halimbawa,“My knowledge in the field of building and construction has prepared me to be part of your company.”

If you succeed in writing a catchy, and professional first sentence about the job being offered, you do great in personal branding. But remember: don’t sound boastful when writing it down.

2. Indicate the position you are applying for and where you heard or read about the vacancy.

Make sure you state the position you are applying for as there might be more than one position the company is advertising for. If the hiring manager has to guess what position you are applying for, he or she might not even be interested in viewing your application.

3. Know the company.

For example, you’re applying to a company that is on top of the industry and has been in the business for 75 years, and are just opening this new position, you have to maximize this knowledge in your letter as a basis to praise them, and tell them where you can show your skills best in the picture. Good research can help you not only with your cover letter but at the actual interview too.

It will also give the hiring managers the idea that you are highly interested in the company, the position and are looking forward to be part of a team in the company.

4. Have a call-to-action.

Statements such as “feel free to contact me through this following numbers, email and professional account” or “if you have an update on my application, here are my contact details” are few of the best call-to-actions in most cover letters. In this way, you are opening yourself to a true opportunity for a job abroad.

5. Thank the hiring manager.

With all these things, writing a good covering letter isn’t an easy task but when you write it effectively, it will not only encourage the hiring manager to read your resume, it will also secure you an interview for a job that will bring you much more money.
