What Overseas Employers Are Looking For

The big population of the Philippines that’s continuously increasing, means that the job you’re hunting is becoming far more competitive by the minute. This is all the more reason for job applicants who want to work abroad for better salaries to understand what overseas companies are really looking for.
Tip: It’s not only the grades!
Don’t get us wrong, good grades are important. School is important. In fact a professional shouldn’t even stop leaning after graduating from college. Being an ace student or even the most extracurricular volunteer are good things to have in one’s resume and can certainly help in one’s career success. Aside from good grades and extracurriculars, employers are also looking for:
- Leadership skills
- The ability to work in a team
- Communication skills
- Creativity
- Flexibility
- Problem-solving skills
- The ability to work under pressure
Company Fit: Bagay ba?
To increase the chances of landing your dream job, make sure to research the company you’re applying to. Find out their company culture, what kind of employees they’re looking for and if your skills and values align with the company. This way, you can be sure that you’re a good fit for the position and will excel in the role.
Attitude: Madali ba pakisamahan?
In our article talking about human resources and an applicant’s social media, it says that more or less, if you’re applying for a certain position, the company’s human resources department will look at your social media account to see what you are up to.
As an applicant, you need to understand that your attitude DOES matter. This is not, “I can do the job so, let me be.” Who you are as a person is also evaluated.
Does it match our company’s core values?
Will she or he be an asset?
Will she or he be able to perform well as a team member?
Will she or he be able to take instructions from the boss as well as from other experienced employees of different nationalities?
You might also evaluate these things yourself before pursuing your application further for a job abroad.
Skills: Independence, Problem Solving, Resourcefulness, and Time Management
If you want to be successful in working abroad, there are certain skills you need to have. Being able to handle stress and challenges is one of them. If you don’t feel like you’re good at these things, take some time to learn how to improve them. It will not only help you in your career, but in your life as well.
